Houston College Student Creates Black-Owned Doll Company

HOUSTON, TX – A young college student from Houston is making a big difference in the lives of Black girls with her new company, The Melanie Dolls. The Black-owned doll company was created to help young Black girls feel proud of who they are, showing them their true beauty and strength through dolls that look just like them.

The idea for The Melanie Dolls came when the founder noticed that many dolls on store shelves did not reflect the beauty of Black girls. She wanted to change that by creating dolls with rich skin tones, natural hair, and beautiful features that celebrate Black culture. Her goal is simple: to give young girls a positive and strong sense of self-identity.

“These dolls are for the little girl who deserves to see herself in her toys,” said the founder. “The Melanie Dolls reflect HER beauty. They come with affirmations that teach HER worth.”

The dolls are more than just toys—they are a tool for teaching self-love and confidence. Each Melanie Doll comes with powerful affirmations to remind young girls of their value. The company’s mission is to help raise daughters who look in the mirror and love what they see.

The response to The Melanie Dolls has been amazing so far. Parents are excited to have a doll option that represents their children. Many have shared stories of their daughters hugging their Melanie Dolls tightly, saying, “She looks like me!”

The Melanie Dolls are available for purchase on the company’s website at https://themelaniedolls.com. The founder hopes to continue growing the brand and reach even more young girls across the country.

In a world where representation matters, The Melanie Dolls are making sure every Black girl knows that she is beautiful, worthy, and strong—just the way she is.
