Meryanne Loum-Martin is The Only Black Woman to Own & Operate a Hotel in Morocco

Meryanne Loum-Martin is rewriting history in Morocco. She is the first Black woman to own, design, and operate a boutique hotel in the country. Her award-winning retreat, Jnane Tamsna, located in the heart of Marrakech, is more than just a hotel — it is a living celebration of African art, culture, and elegance.

Born in Côte d’Ivoire and raised in France, Meryanne Loum-Martin has always been passionate about architecture and design. Her vision came to life when she created Jnane Tamsna, a stunning oasis tucked away in Marrakech’s Palmeraie. With lush gardens, vibrant colors, and thoughtful details in every corner, her retreat feels like a dream escape. What sets Jnane Tamsna apart is not only its beauty but also the way it tells a story — one of heritage, resilience, and creativity.

Jnane Tamsna is more than a place to stay. Guests from all around the world experience African culture through art exhibitions, food, and design. Every room, every piece of furniture, and every pathway in the gardens reflect Loum-Martin’s dedication to blending tradition with modern luxury. Her retreat has been featured in major travel magazines and is often described as one of Marrakech’s hidden gems.

As the only Black woman to own and operate a hotel in Morocco, Loum-Martin’s success is groundbreaking. She is an inspiration to Black entrepreneurs and creatives everywhere, showing that dreams can turn into legacies. Her story is not just about hospitality but about representation and empowerment.

In her own words, she wanted Jnane Tamsna to be “a place where people feel both at home and deeply inspired.” Today, her hotel is not just a business — it is a cultural hub that brings people together.

Meryanne Loum-Martin’s journey is a reminder that barriers can be broken and history can be rewritten with vision, courage, and persistence. She is not only making history in Morocco but also paving the way for future generations of Black women in business and design.
