California Man Takes a Stand Against Gun Violence in Black Communities

In a bold effort to reduce gun violence and mortality rates in Black communities, a California man is stepping up with a unique approach. Lord Cannon Bey, a seasoned, less lethal weapons instructor with over 10 years of experience, aims to empower individuals through education and responsible weapon ownership. Through his program, Checkmate Alternative Defense Club, Lord is offering a safer alternative to traditional firearms, focusing on less-lethal devices and training to help communities protect themselves without escalating violence.

Based in Los Angeles, Lord has dedicated his life to philanthropy and community empowerment. Recognizing the urgent need for change, he founded the Checkmate Alternative Defense Club to provide accessible, less lethal weapon training to people from all walks of life. His program is designed to build confidence and proficiency, offering three levels of training: Basic, Advanced, and Master bundles. Each course is tailored to meet the diverse needs of his community, ensuring that participants feel equipped to handle real-life situations safely and responsibly.

What sets Lord’s program apart is its inclusivity. His services are available to everyone, including individuals with past convictions or felony records. Lord firmly believes that personal safety is a universal right protected by the U.S. Constitution, and no one should be denied the opportunity to defend themselves. “Everyone deserves to feel safe,” Lord says. “My goal is to provide people with the tools and knowledge they need to defend themselves without contributing to the cycle of violence.”

The classes, which include a less lethal device, start at $600, with flexible online payment plans of $166.50 biweekly. Lord offers online courses and shipping services for those unable to attend in person, making his program accessible to people nationwide. His approach is not just about teaching self-defense; it’s about fostering a culture of responsibility and awareness.

Gun violence remains a pressing issue in many Black communities across the U.S., with disproportionately high mortality rates. Lord’s initiative comes at a critical time, offering a practical solution that prioritizes safety without resorting to lethal force. By promoting less-lethal alternatives, he hopes to reduce the number of lives lost to gun violence and create a safer environment for future generations.

Lord’s work has already begun to make waves, with many praising his innovative approach and commitment to community empowerment. His Instagram page, @checkmatelesslethal, has become a hub for those interested in learning more about his program.
