Black Woman Makes History with Frichette Winery in Washington’s Red Mountain

Shae Frichette has made history — and she did it with a coin toss and a dream. She is the proud owner and co-founder of Frichette Winery, the first Black-owned winery in Yakima Valley’s famous Red Mountain wine region in Washington. With no background in winemaking, Shae went from corporate life to crushing grapes, and now her winery is gaining national attention.

Shae’s journey began when she and her husband, Greg Frichette, made a bold decision — they flipped a coin to choose between moving to California or Washington. The coin landed on Washington, and that one moment changed their lives forever.

Together, they built Frichette Winery from the ground up in the heart of Red Mountain, a region known for its rich soil and award-winning wines. What makes this story even more special is that Frichette Winery is the first Black-owned winery in the entire Yakima Valley. That’s a huge milestone in an industry that has long lacked diversity.

Today, Frichette Winery is more than just a business — it’s a symbol of representation, hard work, and breaking barriers. Shae is not only making great wine, but she’s also inspiring others in the Black community to pursue their dreams in industries where they are often underrepresented.

Shae is passionate about giving back, educating others about wine, and creating space for more people of color in the wine world. Through her work, she’s showing that it’s possible to take a chance, follow your passion, and make history at the same time.

Visitors to Frichette Winery can enjoy handcrafted wines, beautiful vineyard views, and a story that proves anything is possible. From a simple coin toss to a major achievement, Shae Frichette is raising a glass to progress and making a difference in every bottle. Visit: www.frichettewinery.com to learn more.
